What is Sacred Music?

Sacred music is based on sacred texts and is created for the glorification of God. As it is the musical expression accompanying the Word of God, sacred music compositions are directed to be reflective of the Divine Presence. Sacred music is differentiated from liturgical music, which is reserved for sacred rites of worship. It is also a distinctive music genre in comparison with religious music, which pertains to a broad range of musical expression, including popular contemporary songs with religious themes, and that is not Scripture-based.
